me and tem have talked quite a lot about her doing a series of smiths/morrissey related tattoos on people. she's drawn up one for 'some girls are bigger than others' with three of those russian dolls each slightly smaller in size. also the classic 'boy with the thorn in his side' with some sort of rose to go with it. think i may get this one done at some point.
sunday we played in colchester with trash talk/mongoloids/jailbait/a load of other bands. i don't want to sour what was a pretty cool day, but i get really annoyed at promoters who put on more than five bands for their shows. especially if it's not billed as an 'all-dayer'. in my experience, people get bored having to watch 5,6,7 bands before seeing the main one(s) and also resent having to pay more because of the number of bands playing. not wishing to single out the guy from sunday, but £9 for a show is ridiculius especially as i heard the the guarantee was really cheap. it could have been 4/5 bands, meaning it cheaper and also more people would probably have come along.
anyway...
the show itself was cool. gave a lift to luke, jim and apryl and got there just as dungeons were starting. some people i know hate on this band a bit, but i think they're actually really good. they definately get better everytime i see them anyway. and they're all aweseom dudes.
we played an alright set. people were into it anyway which is cool. i can't wait to play a few more of the new songs we have written. they sound way better than most of the stuff we have now in my opinion. stoked on recording them soon.
didn't watch no dice or cheat to win as it was so hot inside that i stood outside with jim and apryl just listening and hanging out. was good to catch up with both of them as i only really see the two of them at shows.
jailbait were good as ever, the intro just gets longer and longer haha.
trash talk blew me away. with bands of this sort (ceremony being another) i'm always wary that they may be a bit sloppy playing so fast and stuff but they were so tight and put on such a good show. the singer has such good stage presence too. afterwards he told ams that he has to throw up after every show due to not eating that much during the day whilst on tour and then wrecking himself when they play. nice.
i wasn't going to watch the mongoloids as what i'd heard previous to this show i wasn't really into. thought i'd give them the benefit of the doubt, but only watched the first 3 songs which weren't all that great really. they had some good musical bits, but the guys voice wasn't doing it for me.
this week i haven't really done that much, mainly just look forward to my bloody valentine on saturday. i read a review in nme yesterday of the 'warm up' shows that they did at ica in london last week. they played 12 songs(!!!) including 6 from loveless and four from isn't anything. to say i am excited is an understatement!
short clip of them performing 'when you sleep' from the warm-up show.
jkrneiuheirnvngbnel. ahhhhh i cannot wait!
