hail destroyer

the past few days have been pretty good show wise..

saturday was doomriders/sss/tortuga at the queen charlotte. i was really excited to see doomriders again. last time they played in norwich, about three years ago, at the marquee they out on such a good show even though there were only 30 people max there. anyway, they were awesome again on saturday. they played a couple of new songs that song really good so i'm even more excited for when their new record is released. my neck only stopped hurting yesterday too, i literally headbanged my glasses off at one point. maybe i should invest in one of those straps that attaches to the rim of your glasses and goes round the back of you head to keep them in place? sss and tortuga were both really good too. for those that don't know, the latter are now a five piece after alex and simmons, formerly of bossk, joined the ranks. i personally feel that it's had a positive effect on them as the sound is so much fuller. their new stuff also sounds good.

sunday i headed down to southend with mike to see cancer bats. stan who drives cancer bats on tour has been good enough to get me into all the shows i've been to for free which is really good of him seeing as he doesn't have to by any means. anyway, the southend show was his show so i'm pleased it turned out to be as good - and as busy - as it was. cancer bats were great, as were the other support bans (especially the dead formats, everyone one should check this band out immediately!)

yesterday (monday) i went to cancer bats/ffaf at the waterfront. pre-show was nando's with people/various members of cancer bats/stan and paul which was good. i've managed to lose my nando's loyalty so had to get a new one. no doubt it'll get filled in no time though.
anyway, the show was pretty good. cancer bats stole the show as i expected them to do. ffaf were alright, but they played a fair bit off their new(er) records which i hadn't heard before. the songs from 'casualy dressed and deep in conversation' sounded good though.

tonight is ffaf/cancer bats at the forum in london. should be cool.

one question, how did a band like modern life as war who made such an amazing ep and then an incredible first record make such a bad record as 'midnight in america'? seriously, i miss that band being around, but i miss them being good even more.

xo
