another case where the the corporation's new fear of offending anyone at all has come to the fore again.
their decision not to screen an appeal from an aid organisation concerned with the stricken people of gaza, despite all other major broadcasters agreeing to show it, is cowardly, ridiculous and shows how out of touch they are becoming. mark thompson's reasoning that they do not wish to be seen to be "taking sides" smacks of a man who is living in fear of upsetting anyone and is a sign that the bbc has strayed further from it's remit.
senior reporters, presenters and executives are said to be incandesant and bewildered by the decision and this speaks volumes of the powers of be at the beeb. in this move they seem to be overtaking the british government in pandering to israel and america's leaders.
they also seem to have failed to make the distinction between the fact that this appeal is not an appeal from hamas asking for arms to fight israel, it is an appeal from a recognised charity, asking for aid in order that they can help the hundreds of thousands of palestinian citizens left homeless by israel's recent abhorrent military action. i hope they relent on their stance soon, i really do...
