Recap...

I couldn't think of anything humorous or any song lyrics that were apt to describe this blog post. I'm slacking I know...

The past week has been pretty easy going, which is nice seeing as I haven't wanted to do anything other than watch the ICC World Twenty20 and enjoy the sporadic sunshine. These goals have, you'll be pleased to hear, been pretty successfully accomplished thus far.

One event did happen though that I thought was noteworthy;

Last Sunday was the second house show to be held at 76 Lincoln Street, aka "The House of Punk". In typical British weather fashion it rained all morning which meant loading in and picking up equipment was a pain, but it stopped just in time for the start and precisely two seconds after Ams and about six other people present had erected the gazebo which he'd brought along. The thought was there though...

Anyway, anyone who was at or who viewed pictures from the last house show will know that a surprisingly large amount of people can be squeezed into the living room at Jack's house and this time around was no exception. I missed the first few bands, but from what I heard outside they were all good.

The first band I properly watched was Hang The Bastard who we've had the pleasure of sharing a stage/room with before. All are good dudes and they were on form musically yet again, mixing hardcore and metal with a more atmospheric doom sound to great effect. They have a new record out now and it's well worth picking up.

We played next and actually managed to play a full set, unlike last time when we had to race through about three songs for fear that the show would get shut down. However, greater sound proofing measures this time meant that we got to play our full set and the room was even fuller than last time. People were crowd surfing, human pyramids were constructed and people sung along which I still find weird. All in all it was a fun set for us and hopefully we'll get the chance to play more house shows in the coming months.

Next up were Cold Ones and their set ended up being ridiculously fun. More crowd surfing, fridge dives and copious amounts of sing alongs resulted in smiles all round as well as an inordinate amount of footprints on the ceiling.

Dorian Gay were the last band I watched (I had to leave before Headcase played - I'm reliably informed it was carnage) and although their set wasn't the tightest I've ever seen them it was another super fun set. There's a video on their myspace that you can check out for yourself (make sure you keep an eye out for Wes' Henry Rollins impression!)

All in all, even though I had my doubts prior to the show it turned out to be even funner than last time and it says something when the Polar Bear Club, Ruiner, Defeater show wasn't the best show I went to that week!
