message in a bottle

that time of year again. everyone who loves to get drunk goes out and does so, masquerading as 'celebrating' st patrick's day.

firstly, if you're not irish you don't really have any place stumbling round in a guiness hat and getting fucked up in the name of a saint you almost certainly don't care about. secondly, as i have been reliably informed by two people today, many people who actually ARE irish don't even make a massive deal about st patrick's day. the whole thing was, some what unsurprisingly, cooked up in america.

if you want to get fucked up and vomit/start a fight/act like an idiot/all of the above, i just don't understand why wearing an ireland rugby shirt and dying your hair green means it's acceptable. all the dicks who go out on a friday and saturday night in norwich on riverside/prince of wales road seemingly don't need an excuse to turn into a wasted, annoying mess so why is it apparently fine to do it today? you look like a fucking idot. i have no problem with people drinking whatsoever, aslong as they're not morons when drunk, that's not the point i'm trying to make. the crux of my argument is that why, on this day every year, do so many people feel the need to go out and get fucked while decked out in guiness/irish themed attire? it's such a ridiculous tradition.

in other news...
there are previews of the new fireworks record up:

it sounds pretty good to me. excited to hear the full thing when it's released.

today i have done the following:

- gone to college; had a productive two hours.
- read a lot of kafka; i have nearly finished 'metamorphosis and other stories'
- had the best lunch in ages; vegan cheese and sundried tomato toastie, salad. grapes for dessert. accompanied by a brew and the 'paper. win win win.
- booked in to get the pocket watch on my leg tattooed along with my bouncing souls tattoo next week.

not a bad day so far all things considered.
