the amazing vegan birthday cake that Apryl's mum made. the picture doesn't even do justice to how big it is/was and nor does it properly convey how many cupcakes surrounded it. I have been living on sugar ever since Easter Sunday I think..
Anyway, Apryl's birthday was on Wednesday and I think she had a good day. It was a pretty relaxed day all in all; bit of a lie in, opening presents, headed in to town for a bit, ate some cake, saw Steph and Jack, meal out with people at Pulse and then home in time for The Wire.
After a couple of months of not being able to say anything about her present it's nice that we can get excited about it together. I'm taking her to Copenhagen for four days in June as not only a birthday present, but a 'well done for finishing uni' treat as well. She deserves it so much.
Last night was the conclusion of The Wire series 1 and I am in possession of mixed emotions today with regard to the finale. Good; Omar is back, they locked up many of the gang, Freamon was reinstated to homicide division, etc. Bad; Avon only got 7 years, Stringer is still free, D'Angelo got 20 years. I cannot wait for series 2 now to see which characters are carried over and which will remain confined to the first season. It was also clever the way in which the plot arc has come full circle during the series with Bodie and Poot taking on the role that D'Angelo had during the very first episode, even using the same dialogue and also more subtle references, for instance when Rawls asked McNulty, "Where DON't you want to end up?" Definitely one of the best tv shows I've ever seen.
I have a nervous few days ahead for a variety of reasons:
Today - work.
Tomorrow - work and a meal with Apryl and her family.
Sunday - Norwich v Ipswich
listen to Grammatics and Mastodon.
