i'm really not sure that my nerves are up to the challenge of surviving the remaining three games of the football league season. first we look as if we're going to survive, then we look doomed and now we're back to looking like we may just survive again. no one ever said supporting a team like norwich was an easy ride.
apart from the fact ours has been a pretty much unending run of despair and false dawns, this season has been one of the best, "for the neutral" in a while. by this i mean, no one in any of the four divisions has looked certain to either win the respective league or to be relegated. even now, the issues across all four tiers of english league football have yet to be decided categorically. obviously, it is looking more and more likely that the "big four" in the premier league will again finish ahead of the chasing pack, but for a long while it didn't seem that way. the title race is FAR from over and the relegation fight is also too close to call, with any two (west brom do admittedly appear doomed) from a possible six teams facing the drop. this is the case in the championship and leagues 1 and 2, where several teams are fighting for the points they require at both ends of the table. it's been a fantastic season to watch and not merely the high profile matches broadcast on sky and setanta. the championship and the aforementioned leagues 1 and 2 have produced incredibly entertaining and exciting football and it's reinforced my belief that we have the best top flight league in the world, as well as three others that can compete with any others the world over in terms of excitement and unpredictability. that's one of the main reasons i adore football; the unpredictability of the game. the cliché of "there are no easy games" has long been trotted out in press conferences, but this season (and the past few too) it really has been the case. long may it continue as i'd hate to go back to the stage we were at a few years ago when it was almost a forgone conclusion who would win each league/finish in the playoff positions or finish in the relegation zone. long may the pattern of this season continue for years to come.
tomorrow is apryl's 21st; my presents for her are awesome even if i do say so myself. i am 22 soon and it is my first "nothing birthday". i'm starting to feel old. is that wrong?
