nerves abound

today was not a good day. after a two week break due to the international fixtures, norwich were back in action at home to sheffield wednesday. i cannot overestimate how important this match was. and we went and lost it.

even allowing for the fact that we had a goal harshly dissallowed for a foul on their goalkeeper, we were poor and if i'm being honest we didn't deserve anything from the match. wednesday were all over us in the first half and we were fortunate to go in at half time with the score still 0-0. second half we conceded a sloppy goal and then never really looked like getting back in to the contest.

with five games to go this is the time of the season when you look for big performances from every single one of your players but too many today were found wanting. whether the nerves began to affect them i'm not sure, but several of the team were a yard off the pace and had sloppy passages of play that ultimately underminded the excellent performances of the previous four games. next week's trip to swansea is an incredibly tough match, what with them fihting for a playoff position and then after that it's watford at home (they've found some form in recent weeks too) and then the derby at portman road. i still think we have a good chance of staying up and results today softened the blow of losing (blackpool vs forest and barnsley vs plymouth were both draws and southampton lost to charlton) but we need to improve drastically on today if we want to keep our fate in our own hands rather than relying on the results of the other teams around us in the relegation fight. i really do not want the relegation battle to go all the way to the final game, that would be too much to handle and i can just see us capitulating in a similar vain to the way in which we fell apart away at fulham a few years ago in the premier league when all we needed to do was draw to stay up and we went and lost 6-1.

also for the first time in a while i'm not watching the new csi: ny tonight. going to wait and watch it with apryl tomorrow as it's not the same making jokes about the "go to the titles line" and messer on your own.
